Our 2020 annual report looks back on a year of striving to the Great Commission through oral Bible translation, spreading the Word of God.
The 2020 Spoken Annual Report reflects a year shaped by global challenges and continued commitment to spreading the Word through oral Bible translation and spoken word ministry. Even in a season of disruption, Spoken remained focused on reaching oral learners—communities where communication is rooted in listening, storytelling, and relational learning rather than written text.
Throughout 2020, the importance of oral Bible reading and oral Bible translations became even more evident. Many communities served by Spoken do not rely on written Scripture, making Bible and translation efforts that prioritize orality essential for meaningful engagement. By continuing to develop culturally relevant biblical translations, Spoken helped ensure that the message of Scripture could still be accessed and shared.
A key focus of the year was supporting missionaries and partners working in the field through adaptable oral Bible translation strategies. While there are many different Bible translations globally, not all are designed for oral cultures. Spoken’s approach helps bridge that gap by equipping leaders with tools to communicate Scripture through spoken word formats that are clear, memorable, and reproducible.
Despite global uncertainty, 2020 reinforced the resilience and importance of orality-based ministry. Through continued partnership and innovation, Spoken advanced its mission of making Scripture accessible to oral learners, ensuring that the gospel continues to move forward through the power of the spoken word.
